Busy week of end of year activities taking place this week!  Please don't forget to send in the $7.00 for our class party that will take place on Thursday, May 30th.  Money is due by Friday, May 24th.

Week of May 13th-17th

End of course exams for Music, Art & P.E. will take place this week.

Achieve testing will take place on Tuesday.

Our Bowl America Field Trip is on Friday!  Students will be provided with lunch-- pizza and a drink.  We suggest students bring a snack for when we return.

Our end of year party will take place on Thursday, May 30th.  The cost is $7.00 for Zaxby's chicken tenders, chips, drink, and dessert.  Please submit the money by Friday, May 24th.

Academics:

ELA: Achieve testing on Tuesday! We will be celebrating our yearly growth on Achieve this week!  I am so proud of the effort and achievements made in this program! You rock!

We will continue to work on our Travel Brochures!  We will also be writing reflection essays to finish off your last year in elementary school.  Finally, we will create Survival Guides for the upcoming 4th graders to welcome them into 5th grade next school year and encourage them to do their best.

Math:  We will begin working on 5th grade standards-- ratios, proportions, surface area, etc...

Science: We will be continuing through the health curriculum.  We will discuss caring for your body, teeth, hair, nails, etc...  Information went home about the upcoming 5th grade health video that will be shown on Tuesday, May 28th.  Please e-mail us if you have any questions or concerns.  The video is available for your viewing at the link provided on the form.

Week of May 6th-10th

Students will complete the Math & Science state tests this week!  Math will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday.  Science will take place on Thursday and Friday.

Field Trip money is due on Friday!!  No exceptions.

Students will get to participate in Math Camp on Monday!  This will be similar to science camp with a day full of fun and interactive math activities.

Academics:

ELA: CONGRATULATIONS! WE COMPLETED THE ELA FSA!  Job well done.  Everyone worked hard and stayed focus.  I am so very proud of you!



We will begin a fun project this week that will count for both ELA and SS.  We will create Travel Brochures!  Students will choose from travel magazines to design a brochure.  Specific directions and a rubric will be provided.  All brochures will be due on May 16th.  We will then sign up for presentations for any students who would like to present their brochures to their classmates. Students can bring in items from the place, clothing, or even food to share!  We will talk more about this later and the presentations will be optional.

We have so much going on at the end of the year that this will be the final social studies grade. 

Math:  We will begin covering 6th grade math standards.  We will begin with discussing ratios and percentages.

Science:  We will finish up any last  minute test prep!  We will also be observing our eggs and recording our observations.  We will look to begin our health lessons.

Friday will be Science Camp!  A day filled with science activities!

Academics:

ELA: FSA week is here!  We will be preparing for the test with review. We will focus on theme in poetry.  When we are finished with the test we will begin a new Travel Brochure project to be completed by 5/17.  All requirements will be given in class. No other new work jobs at this time.

Math:  We are continuing to practice fluency and reviewing how to properly answer and grid the bubble sheets for the upcoming FSA.

Science:  We are continuing to review all topics and look forward to science camp on Friday!  We will be reviewing electricity this week.  Students can expect a quiz one day this week covering electricity.  The quiz will be open book.

No school on Monday, it is a weather day!

Last PTA Spirit Night of the year at Chuck E. Cheese on Wednesday!  Students wearing the sticker we pass out on the 24th will receive 10 free tickets!  Please consider supporting Bartram Springs by attending from 3-9PM.

Academics:

ELA:  FSA List #3 test on Friday! All work jobs are due this week! RRJ and Social Studies Ticket.  We will be making "Knowledge is Power" posters using our source books to help review and prepare for the FSA coming up May 1.  We will also be doing review packets.  We have worked so hard this year.  I am confident we are ready!

Math:  We will begin our test prep for the upcoming FSA.  We will take a practice assessment to discuss the changes students can expect on the paper based assessment.  We will also view the DCPS help video that was e-mailed to you a couple weeks ago.

Science:  We will review forms of energy!

Week of April 15th-19th

There is no school on Friday in observance of Good Friday!

SAC meeting on Tuesday at 6PM in the Media Center.  All are welcome to attend.

Academics:

ELA: List #3 of the FSA words! Test will be on Friday 4/26,


We will be working on figurative language and theme this week. We will focus on a short story by Langston Hughes as well as our reading text.

Math:  We will continue discussing the coordinate grid and review various math concepts from throughout the year.

Science:  We will be reviewing states of matter.

Parents-- Mark your calendars, the 5th grade Promotional Ceremony will take place on Wednesday, May 29th from 8:45-11.  Please plan on attending and celebrating all of your students accomplishments this year!

Math:  We will be working on module 6.  Module 6 deals with line plots, and the coordinate grid.  Students will have nightly homework.

Science:  We will be reviewing the water cycle this week.
