Week of January 30th-February 3rd

This is the last week to turn in field trip money for our upcoming field trip to the University of North Florida!  All money is due by Friday, February 3rd.

Academics:

ELA:  New Vocabulary for the week:/test Friday.


Due to Literacy Week, Writing Prompt and Tree Hill we  got behind a bit so we will continue our work jobs from last week.

Social Studies, RRJ, and Langston Hughes short story questions are due Friday.
We will be having Data Chats this week so that students know where they are performing.

The Bin of Happiness Winner is Gael! I know what he is going to choose! :)

Math:  Students will take the Module 4 test on Wednesday!  Students will bring home a review sheet on Tuesday to study.  There are videos at the end of this post to assist with the first two lessons of Module 5 we will begin this week.  In the video they review homework problems and walk you thru all of the steps.

Science: We will begin discussing parts of plants.  This should be a review from 3rd and 4th grade.  We will not spend too much time on plants.

Week of January 23rd-27th

Report cards will be sent home on Monday.

Early Release on Wednesday.

The 100th day of 5th grade is on Friday!

Academics:

ELA:
New Vocabulary words! Test Friday!
This week we will have a social studies ticket on Life in the 1960s which is due on Friday.
We will have an RRJ as well which will be due Feb. 3rd with a CHAT!
We will have a mid unit assessment on Wednesday.  Students will read an article and answer questions.
As always, two ACHIEVE 3000 lessons due this week.
Finally, there will be a new writing prompt due Friday!

The new phrase for the week is:

We have some new and exciting items in the Bin of Happiness!  Turn in the phrase on a sticky note to Mrs. Ray!

Math:  We will continue dividing fractions
Monday: Lesson 29
Tuesday: Lesson 30
Wednesday: Lesson 32
Thursday: Lesson 33
Friday: Review
Module 4 Test will be next week!  We will move on to module 5 next week as well which will begin our discussions of volume! :)

Science:  We will continue to discuss weather and climate.  We will create cloud finders and spend the week discussing different types of clouds in the sky!  We will have a test on Chapter 4 on Friday!  This test will not be open book like the tests were at the beginning of the school year!  STUDY STUDY STUDY!!

Week of January 16th-20th

No School on Monday, January 16th in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Both classes will have media this week, so be sure to return any library books.
Remember late work will now be assessed 10 points.

Upcoming Events:
Report cards will be sent home on Monday, January 23rd

Field Trip to UNF Eco Adventure: Wednesday, February 15th: The cost is $9 due by 2/3/17.

Academics:

ELA:
No new work jobs this week due to our field trips last week and the short week this week.
Social Studies Ticket and RRJ's are due on Thursday, 1/19.
We will continue our study of Jackie Robinson and the Civil Rights Movement.
Friday we will create a science booklet to support what is being studied in Science class!

January 5th - January 13th

Welcome back to school! We hope everyone enjoyed their winter break!  We are very excited to start 2017!

Our first early release of the new year will take place on Wednesday, January 11th.

On Thursday, January 12th we will go to Twin Lakes to tour the school and hear about all the events and activities the kids can look forward to next year!

Also on Thursday at Bartram Springs, we will host a Middle School Information Night from 6-7:30.  There will be several magnet schools represented as well as a presentation from the principal of Twin Lakes!  We hope to see you there!

On Friday, January 13th we will make up our field trip to the Marine Science Center.

BOTH FIELD TRIPS REQUIRE A BAGGED LUNCH!!!

Academics:
ELA:
We will be taking a break from weekly vocabulary due to the short week this week and the field trips next week.  We will have a social studies ticket due on January 19th as well as weekly Achieve 3000.  
We will also have an RRJ due January 19th. 
Our study of Jackie Robinson and Sports in America will continue!


Math:
Thursday: Lesson 16: Solving word problems involving fraction by fraction multiplication
Friday: Lesson 19: Covert units of measurement in multi-step word problems
Monday: Lesson 20: Convert mixed unit measurements in multi-step word problems
Tuesday: Lesson 21: Relate fractions to decimals
Wednesday: Lesson 22: Comparing fractions to units of measurement

Science:  We will continue our discussions on rock sand minerals.  The students will complete a couple different labs this week.  One focusing on becoming a mineral detective and the other discussing renewable and nonrenewable resources.
