Week of January 29th-February 2nd

We will have an Early Release on Wednesday.  Dismissal will begin at 1:40.

Academics:

ELA: This week we will have list #9 of our Morphs.  Remember this is cumulative so go back and study the previous lists.  It has been quite awhile since we had these!
Our RRJs and Social Studies Tickets are both due this Friday, 2/2.
We will be color coding our Drone Essays this week and meeting in Writing groups.

We will continue our study of Jackie Robinson and the Civil Rights Era.

Math:
Thursday there will be a fraction multiplication test.


Lesson 20: Convert mixed unit measurements, and solve multi-step word problems. 
Lesson 21: Explain the size of the product, and relate fraction and decimal equivalence to multiplying a fraction by 1. 

Lesson 22:  Compare the size of the product to the size of the factors.

Lesson 25: Divide a whole number by a unit fraction.

Science: We will finish up weather and  take a quiz on Wednesday.  We will move into plants.  We will complete a readers theater about flowering and nonflowering plants.  Cloud Finder Data sheet is due on Tuesday!

Week of January 22nd-26th

There is a SAC (School Advisory Council) meeting on Tuesday at 6PM in the Media Center.  Come learn about our school and all the progress we have made this year.

Monday, students will finish up all mid-year testing by taking the second session of science.

Academics:

ELA:
No morphs due to Science Baseline testing on Monday.  We will be going back to them next week!
We will begin a new RRJ this week as well as a new Social Studies Ticket on the Civil Rights Movement.  These will be due on 2/2/18.
Tuesday and Wednesday of this week will be Writing Prompt Practice!  PLEASE BE IN SCHOOL!  THIS IS IMPORTANT!  ✍We will have a timed prompt-1 hour each day to prepare students for the 2 hour State Writing  Test the week of March 5th.
We will also begin reading our non-fiction selection for the 9 weeks: Promises to Keep.  This is a book about Jackie Robinson and his impact on the country at that time.⚾⚾⚾⚾

Math: We will have a Mid Module Assessment Tuesday.
Lesson 13: Multiply unit fractions by unit fractions.
Lesson 14 -15: Multiply unit fractions by non unit fractions.
Lesson 16: Solve word problems using tape diagrams and fraction by fraction multiplication.

Lesson 19: Convert measures involving whole numbers, and solve multi-step word problems. 

Science: We will finish up weathering and erosion and have a quiz on Tuesday.  We will discuss renewable and non renewable resources and move on to weather.  Students should be working on their cloud finders over the weekend.

Week of January 15th-19th

No school Monday due to the observance of Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday!

SCRIMMAGE TESTING THIS WEEK:
Tuesday and Wednesday will be Math testing.
Science testing will take place on Friday and continue next Monday.
Please ensure you are in school and on time these days to take the assessments!

REPORT CARDS GO HOME ON WEDNESDAY, 1/17/18

Our very first TQ luncheon will take place on Friday January 19th for all of those students who have completed there Top Quality Charts in Mrs. Ray's room. CONGRATULATIONS!  Keep up that super top quality work!

ELA:
Due to testing we will NOT have new vocabulary this week.
Social Studies Ticket for the 1950's and the RRJ with a chat are due on Friday.
Baseball Graphic Organizer is due on Friday also!
We will complete a reading short Mid-Unit Assessment on Thursday.

Now that we have had our first group of students complete the Top Quality Charts we will be starting our Quality Control Team!
The following students are the new members and will be available to their classmates to review the quality of their work and make suggestions on how they can achieve Top  Quality work!

We will continue to discuss weathering and erosion.  We will also talk about renewable and nonrenewable resources.  Students will have a quiz next week on weathering, erosion, and deposition.  Ask your child to explain the differences of each and give you an example.

Week of January 8th-12th

Welcome back and Happy New Year!!  We hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing break.

There is no Run Club this week.  Students will return to the track on January 16th.

There is a teacher planning day on Monday.  Students will return on Tuesday.  Report cards will be sent home on Wednesday, January 17th.

We will attend Twin Lakes this week for a field trip on Thursday.  Remember students must bring a bagged lunch.   Also on Thursday, plan on attending Middle School Information Night at Bartram Springs at 6PM in the cafeteria.

Academics:

ELA: This week we will begin a new Unit of Study: Sports in America.  We will be reading Promises to Keep: How Jackie Robinson changed America.
We will NOT have morphs this week due to the short week.
We will have a new RRJ and a SS ticket due on January 19th.

Math:  We continue working in Module 4.
 Lesson 8: Relate a fraction of a set to the repeated addition interpretation of fraction multiplication.
Lesson 9: Find a fraction of a measurement and solve word problems.
Lesson 10:  Compare and evaluate expressions with parentheses.



Science:  We will continue with our discussions of rocks and minerals.  We will also spend time learning about weathering, erosion and deposition. It is very important that students understand the differences of each.  We will complete a fun activity to help students remember this.
