Week of January 3rd-7th

 

Welcome back and Happy New Year!!  We hope everyone had a great break.  Just a reminder, there is no school on Monday, January 3rd for a teacher planning day.

Academics:

ELA: We will be working on a new opinion prompt this week! We will be starting to time our prompts to prepare for the two hour time frame that is allowed on the FSA writing test. New morphs list will be given this week with a test on 1/13 of next week. List # 8. We will be celebrating new Lexile levels in Achieve this week! New SS ticket: Native American Task Cards- due on 1/13. New RRJ will be due on 1/21.



Math:  We will continue in module 4 by working on multiplication of fractions.  Students have been introduced to this concept during daily math work.

Science: We will begin the new year discussing the water cycle!  Students need to know the following vocabulary words: Precipitation, Evaporation, Condensation.  Please review these words with your child.

Week of Dec. 13th-17th

 We will have our final day of PMA testing on Monday--finishing up the Science test!



Early Release on Wednesday.  Dismissal begins at 1:15.



Thank you to all the families who signed up to bring in items for our holiday snack party!  Please send all items in by Thursday so we know if we need any additional items.



School resumes on Tuesday, January 4th.  We hope everyone has a great holiday break!  We will see you back in 2022!!

Academics:

ELA: No new morphs!  New standard is text structure. Lesson check 11 will be on 12/15. The quarter ends on 12/17. All work will need to be in by 12/17/21 in order to be counted for the 2nd quarter. SS ticket is due 12/15-Ancient Civilizations in the yellow SS book.

Math:  We will continuing working through Module 4, working on multiplying fractions.

Science:  After the PMA on Monday, we will wrap up our units on weathering, erosion, rocks, minerals, and resources!  We have a couple labs and activities planned to help review these concepts.

Week of December 6th-10th

 We will continue with PMA 2 testing this week.  

ELA on Wednesday and Thursday

Science on Friday--we will finish the following Monday.









Field Trip News:

Mrs. Ray's class will attend on Monday!  Students MUST bring a lunch!!

Mrs. Puckett's class will attend on Tuesday!  Students MUST bring a lunch!!

Check the weather and please dress accordingly, we will travel to the beach at the end of the field trip!  It can be very windy at the beach.

Academics:

ELA: We will take our ELA PMA this week! For this reason, we will continue our study of unfamiliar words with our lesson check on Friday. Morph #7 this week. postponed from last week.

We will continue working on our Opinion Writing Prompt- whether or not zoos should be closed.

Writing is going really well and I am super impressed!

New SS ticket is due on 12/15. Ancient civilizations part 2.

Math:  We will be looking at division of fractions.  Students will understand how to interpret fractions as division.

Science: We will have our field trip this week.  We will finish up our discussion weathering and erosion.  We will also discuss some of Florida's resources: Renewable and Non Renewable.  Students will begin the PMA session 1 on Friday, a review sheet will go home.

Week of Nov. 29th-Dec.3rd



We hope everything had a great Thanksgiving.  🦃

Our Progress Monitoring assessments will begin this week and finish before winter break.   The assessments will cover quarter 1 and 2 material.

The schedule is as follows:

November 30th & Dec. 1st- Math session 1 & 2

December 8th & 9th- ELA Session 1 & 2

December 10th & 13th- Science Session 1 & 2

Our field trip to the Marine Science Center will take place on Monday, Dec. 6th for Mrs. Ray's class and Tuesday, Dec. 7th for Mrs. Puckett's class.  Students must bring a bagged lunch.

Academics:

ELA: New morph list #7 with a test on next Friday. Updated-we have not had enough time to create our morph cards this week!


New skill: identifying unknown words. Students will complete Ready pages 188-194 and lesson checks 9-10. Lesson check 11 on next Friday.

Complete healthy eating prompt and begin Opinion Prompt: Zoos.

SS ticket is due Friday-flow maps with important events.

Math: We will review for PMA 2 and complete the assessment this week.  We will then begin module 4 which will cover the topic of multiplying and dividing fractions.

Science:  We will start a new unit on Rocks and Minerals this week.  We will also discuss weathering and erosion.  Students need to understand that weathering is the breaking of the rock or mineral and that erosion is the movement of the material to a new location.

Week of November 15th-19th & Nov. 22nd & 23rd

Academics:

ELA: New Morphs this week! List #6-test on Friday


This week's standard focuses on Inferences in literary texts. We have worked with inferences before and will have the lesson check on Friday.  New Social Studies Ticket will be a flow map of events due on 11/23. New informative writing prompt about healthy eating. These prompts are due 11/23 and will be for a grade. We will complete the Interim test Monday, 11/22.

Math: We will finish Module 3 before Thanksgiving break.  Students will take the test on Tuesday, Nov. 23rd.  If your child plans to be absent, please let me know so we can make different arrangements.  I would like to have all module 3 tests completed prior to the holiday.  Module 3 covers adding and subtracting fractions only!

Science:  We will finish up out unit on the solar system and outer space before Thanksgiving as well.  This week we will discuss the Sun, Earth, and Moons movement.  Students need to understand the difference between revolution and rotation.

Week of November 8th-12th



This week is a short week.  Students will be off on Thursday and Friday.  We hope everyone enjoys the long weekend.



All Science Fair projects are due on Monday!  Judging will take place this week and winners will be announced on ENN after the long weekend.

Academics:

ELA: Since this is a short week we will finish up all tasks from last week. These include: SS tickets, RRJs, Summarizing Flow Maps and Ready pages. We will take our Lesson check for summarizing this week as well. :)

We have started a new writing prompt that we will be working on as well. It is informational writing about Tigers! The writing is looking really good so far!


Math: Module 3 Math Test will be Tuesday, November 23rd if your child plans to be absent due to travel.  Please make arrangements with me to take the test prior to Thanksgiving break.  The module 3 test covers adding and subtracting fractions.  We will continue to work on this skill this week.

Science:  We will continue with our discussion on the Solar System.  This week we will focus on the inner and outer planets.  Have your child explain the different characteristics between inner and outer planets.

ELA: We are taking a break from Morphs to finish our writing prompt this week. We will be finishing up theme in poetry this week with the independent practice due Friday.

New Social Studies will be due on 11/10. RRJ is due on 11/5 with a chat! New standard is Summarizing Literary Texts. We will have a lesson check on Friday. Flow map project with one of our books of the day.
For Writing we will continue working on our Brazil Essay/Informative writing.

Math:  We will be working in Module 3 which is the adding and subtraction of fractions.

Science:  We will begin our unit on the galaxy and solar system.  We will be charting the phases of the moon during this unit.

MathStudents will complete the Module 2 test on Wednesday.  We will review on Tuesday and students should have a review packet to bring home.  We will then move onto Module 3 which discusses adding and subtracting fractions.

Science:  We will continue our discussions on force and motion.  We will take a short quiz on Thursday.  Be sure to continue to review those yellow science vocabulary word packets to study.  We will finish the month of October by completing a lab called Candy Corn catapult.  Thank you to the families who helped to donate supplies for the lab.

Week of October 11th-15th

 


No School on Monday-- this is a planning day for teachers.  Report cards will be sent home soon!

If you signed your child up for a flu shot here at school, those will take place on Oct. 19th.

Academics:

ELA: Tuesday will be our ELA PMA! Let's show what we know! 💓

New task sheets will include SS ticket due Friday-13 colonies maps.

New Morphs this week! List #4. Test will be next Friday due to the short week and the PMA! 10/22.

We will continue working on our literature standard of comparing and contrasting with the focus on  settings and events in a story. We will have the lesson #6 check on Friday, 10/15.

This week in writing (WOW) we will be working on introduction paragraphs!


We will also be working on Daily Plans. We have been using task sheets to make plans and prioritize for the week. The Daily Plan will focus specifically on a daily goal for completing work. This will hopefully assist those students who have struggled with getting work jobs in on time.

Math: We will work on division this week using the area model and arrays.  We will then relate this to the standard algorithm for division.

Science:  We will continue with electrical transformations this week.  We will complete 2 labs this week--one focusing on insulators and conductors.  We will wrap this unit up on Friday.

October 4th-8th



Friday is the end of the 1st nine weeks!  Planning Day is next Monday, October 11th!

Students will complete PMA testing for Science and Math this week.  PMA stands for Progress Monitoring Assessment.  These tests will cover material covered in the first quarter and will be an assessment grade.  ELA will take place next week on Tuesday 10/12.

Academics:

ELA: New Standard is Comparing and Contrasting Settings and Events. Lesson check #6 will be on Friday.

New SS task: Students will create a map of the 13 original colonies. Due 10/15.

ELA: This week will be a Language Extravaganza! We will be working on various Language skills located in our Ready book.

Independent Practice:74-78 is due on Friday 10/1.

We have some assigned Freckle lessons to complete this week.

No new morphs this week. Physical Maps are due Friday 10/1-new:CLASSROOM MAPS.  

New RRJ with CHAT is due 10/7.

We will continue to work on Writing Skills this week and our Pirate Writing Poem!



New Ready Skill: Comparing and Contrasting Characters in a Drama.  Lesson Check on Friday 10/1!

Math: We will be working on multiplying decimals by whole numbers.  Our first progress monitoring assessment will be coming up next week.

Science: We will move into Forms of Energy this week.  Students will need to know the difference between potential and kinetic energy. Potential is stored energy and kinetic is energy of motion.  We will complete a few explorations this week to show the difference between light, heat, and sound energy.

Week of August 30th-Sept. 3rd

 There will be No School on Monday, Sept. 6th for Labor Day!  We hope everyone enjoys the extra day off!



Academics:

ELA: READY READING NEWS: We will be wrapping up Summarizing and moving on to Inferences this week! Lesson Check #3 on 9/3.

SS Map packets are due 9/3.

New RRJ will be due on 9/10 with an RRJ chat w/classmates.

I am introducing a word study entitled Morphs this week. We will have 10 affixes per week for students to create flash cards for each morph containing definitions, sentences using the morph and a picture. These cards will be kept on a ring and the tests will be cumulative each week. It's a great study tool!

We will have a test on LIST #1 only on 9/3.



Math: We will work on rounding, adding and subtracting decimals this week.

Science: We will have our first science test of the year.  The test will cover the scientific method and scientist tools.  Students will bring home review material on Thursday prior to the test on Friday.

Week of August 23rd-27th

 


We will have our first Early Release on Wednesday!  Dismissal will begin at 1:15.

Academics:

ELA: New Standard this week! Summarizing Text! Builds on Main Idea!

    Shorter than the text!

     Use your own words!

Main Ideas only!

We will have  lesson check #2 quiz on Friday on "Summarizing".

RRJ (reader's response journal) is due Friday 8/27! We will have chats next week to discuss the RRJs and ensure students understand them..

SS Map Packet-I will introduce a map packet for students to complete. It will be classwork and due on 9/3.

New map vocabulary- Students will use these words and last week's words to complete the map packet in class.



Math: We will use place value understanding to read and write decimals to thousandths using base ten numerals.  We will also compare decimals using <, >, or =.



Science:  We will complete a few science labs this week to discuss the difference between a dependent and independent variable.  The importance of a control group.

Week of August 16th-20th

Academics:

ELA: We are off and running in ELA! Using Key Details to find Main Idea is the first standard we will be working on this year.  We will have a lesson check/test on this skill on Friday 8/20. I will introduce RRJ's (reader's response journals) on Monday and our first one will be due on 8/27. This is classwork and is a response to the independent reading book each student is reading. For social studies we have begun a study of types of maps. I will introduce a Social Studies Ticket to be completed by 8/20. This is classwork and will be explained to the class on Monday. 






We will have a quiz on 8/20 on the map terms posted here. The Social Studies Ticket is classwork!

I sent home the first Read At Home Log which is due every Thursday! It looks like this! 😉




Math: We are continuing to work through Module 1 understanding decimal place value.  We will also discuss Powers of 10 or Exponents this week.  10 to the 3rd power equals 1,000.

Students have a daily math quiz EVERY FRIDAY!  They are allowed to bring their daily work folder home with them to study but it does need to return to class everyday.  The first 3 weeks of daily math we discuss the quizzes together or they will work with a partner.  Beginning week 4, students will be expected to complete the quizzes by themselves for a weekly quiz grade.  The material from each week we go over in class is what will be covered on the quiz.

Science:  We are continuing to learn about the scientific process and the different type of tools scientists use.  Students will complete the science baseline on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.  This is a tool used to see how much science knowledge they already have--this is not used for a grade.

First Week of School! Week of August 9th-13th

 


It was nice to meet so many of you at orientation on Friday!  We are going to have a fantastic year.

Don't forget--School starts on Tuesday!  Please be sure to bring in all supplies this week as we get started on our work right away!

All beginning of the year paperwork is due by Friday, August 20th.

Academics:

ELA: We will be setting up journals this week and establishing rituals and routines. We will begin our first Ready Reading lesson which will focus on Main Idea.

Students need a chapter book at all times and will be able to check out a book from my classroom library if they need one! I have MANY to choose from!

Math:  We will begin module 1 this week which focuses on place value.  


Science:  We will begin with discussing roles of a scientist!  We hope to complete a science lab or two this week.


Baseline testing will also begin this week, schedule still pending.
