Week of February 28th-March 4th

 


We will finish up PMA testing this week.

Monday, Wednesday and Thursday--please make sure your child is on time as we will begin first thing in the morning each day.

Academics:

ELA: New list of homophones. Test on Friday!

We will continue working on Point of View this week with passages as well as poetry.

We will revise, reflect, and color code previous informative prompt about drones.

We will present the group projects for the 13 colonies and begin to look at the American Revolution.

Math: We will continue working on volume and area.  Students will take the Module 5 test prior to spring break.  Test date is next Thursday, March 10th.

Science:  We will be working on animal and plant adaptations this week.  Students will complete a science lab on Friday.

Week of February 21st-25th

 No School Monday!  We will see everyone back on Tuesday.  Early Release on Wednesday. Dismissal begins at 1:15.



Progress Monitoring Assessments will begin this week.  Please ensure your child is at school on time.

PMA Schedule:

Wednesday, February 23rd- ELA Session 1

Academics:

ELA: We will be working on Point of View as our standard. We have our RRJ due 2/25. Group project presentations this week for the 13 colonies. We will also be working on Homonyms. We will not have a writing prompt this week, but will work on some writing strategies.



Math: We are continuing to work on volume of irregular shapes.  We will take our Module 5 assessment prior to spring break.

Science: We will be looking at the life cycle of plants and animals. Students will need to know the difference between complete and incomplete metamorphosis.

Week of February 14th-18th

 


 No school, Monday, February 21st in observance of President's Day!

Academics:

ELA: I will be out the first three days of the week. These are the tasks that students will be working on in my absence. 

Students will complete the tasks from Friday first: 

   *Two lesson checks for text structure and a non-fiction reader activity.

·      *Social Studies ticket with yellow book.

·      *RRJ with a chat due 2/25

·      *Ready pages to complete: 

--Analyzing accounts of the same topic pages 244-248

--Interim Test pages 250-260

--Literary Structure pages 288-292

*Scholastic reader activity and a writing practice for those students who complete the above tasks.


Math:  We are continuing our unit on volume, but this will will focus on the volume of irregular shapes.  

Science:  We will discuss the differences between flowering and nonflowering plants.  We will also compare plants and animals.  We will then begin studying the life cycle of plants and animals.

Academics:

ELA: We have completed our Morphs for the year, but will begin new vocabulary words next week. New standard this week is Literary Structure. We will have a lesson check on Friday. Social Studies Ticket/group project due 2/18. Independent Practice pages due on 2/11. (274-279)

New writing prompt carried over from last week: Informative- Drones-their use now and how it may increase in the future.

Math:  We will begin Module 5 and begin with volume.  In order to find volume students will need to know the length, the width, and the height of the object.  Units will be written in units cubed.

Science:  We will continue with our unit on the human body.  Students will take a quiz on Wednesday.  We will then move into comparing plants and animals.  How are plant parts similar to human body parts?  For example, plant stems provides support, just like the skeleton of the human body.
