STEM Activity: Saving Sam

Students had to find a way to rescue Sam from his capsized boat by successfully getting a life saver around him without using any hands!  It was a lot of fun and students were able to understand the difference between an investigation and an experiment.

Week of October 10th-14th

Welcome back and we hope everyone made it through the hurricane safely.  We are grateful the damage wasn't worse than it was.  We missed you!
                                       
                                                   

Our Boosterthon Pep Rally has been postponed until next Monday the 17th!  Our Fun Run will take place on Thursday, October 27th.  

Wednesday is early release!

Friday will be the end of the 1st nine weeks!  All late assignments must be turned in by Friday to receive credit.

Volunteer Opportunity:
Family Fitness Night
Family Fitness Night has moved. It is now this Friday, October 14 from 5 to 8.  There are still needs for help greeting vendors, helping with parking and some of the activities on the track.  Please see the sign up for details.

Academics:

ELA:  We will make up our last week's homonym vocabulary test on Wednesday.
We will not have an RRJ or Social Studies Ticket this week due to missing three days of class work job time. (some students still owe me these from last week!)
We will work on a non-fiction reader activity this week which will be due on Friday. 
If you have not turned in your Spider Prompt you need to do so as soon as possible.  
       
We will also read Chapters 6 and 7 in Esperanza.
I will announce Bin of Happiness winners on Friday and we will use the same phrase from last week:


Math: We will be dividing with larger numbers which will result in a remainder.  This will be our last week on Module 2, next week we will review and test on Module 2.  This test will take place on the computer.  Be on the lookout for the review sheet to practice extra problems with your child before the test.

Science:We will discuss sound and light energy this week.  The chapter we are covering in our science text is chapter 6!  We will also complete 2 labs this week!

In science we will begin using a new software program called Penda Learning.  This can be accessed on any device.  Students can access this at home as well as at school.

Week of October 3rd-7th

We will attend the Marine Science Center on Thursday, October 6th!  Students will need to bring a bagged lunch where everything can be thrown away, no tupperware please!  Label bag and drink! Students will also need to bring a milk jug.  Students are allowed to decorate these jugs to win a prize.  Students will be visiting the beach, keep in mind the weather can be very different at the beach so bring layers!  We will not arrive back to school until around 2:30.

We had a great time at the Reptile Party on Wednesday!  We are also so thankful that we had 100% participation for families who joined the PTA!  Thank you for your support of this great organization.

Academics:
ELA:  Here are the new vocabulary words for this week!
More homonyms!  Let's start using these words correctly along with the ones from last week.  Test Friday!

Our Social Studies Ticket from last week, along with the RRJ from last week will be due this Friday.  Our writing on Spiders will be due this week as well, complete with color coding and graded rubric with a partner.

Bin of Happiness winners this week were Raina and Lucas.  The new secret phrase is a wonderful quote and is as follows:

Polite Pigs went out to Mallory and Peyton G. this week. Thanks for having such great attitudes and polite words girl! You rock!


Math: Students will take the Mid-Module 2 Assessment on Wednesday.  We will continue to work on multiplication and how this relates to measurement equivalents.  By the end of the week, we will work on two-digit division.  

Science:
Students will take a Progress Monitoring Assessment in Science on Wednesday.  This will cover all the standards we have worked on from the beginning of the year.  Now that we have finished our unit on States of Matter and Changes in Matter, we will move on to Forms of Energy.

Week of September 26th-30th



Early Release on Wednesday!  


Our Eagle of the Month celebration will take place on Thursday!  Congratulations again to Bella & Gael!   Thank you for always showing self-control.



The Book Fair will be taking place all week!  Students can bring in money daily to go shopping!


Be sure to sign and return all permission slips for the Marine Science Center!

Academics:

ELA:

We have begun our novel, Esperanza Rising and so far we LOVE IT!  We will continue with our novel study!

Vocabulary for this week will be commonly misspelled Homonyms. Test Friday!

We will be working on a new writing prompt this week. 

We will also have a social studies ticket and an RRJ.

Are you keeping up with your Achieve Lessons and earning all of the fantastic rewards for lessons 75% and higher? Isabella sure is!
Check out all the stuff she's earned already! This girl loves to "Achieve"!


Math: We will work on multiplication this week using the area model & the standard algorithm.
 

Science: We will have 2 days in the science lab this week to focus on labs dealing with chemical changes.  We will also wrap up Chapter 5 in our science workbooks.  This chapter covered states of matter, and chemical and physical changes.  Students can plan to have a test on Friday.

Spirit Night at PDQ


Bartram Springs Spirit Night will take place at PDQ on Thursday, September 22nd!  We hope you will go out and support BSE and enjoy some chicken! :)
