Another school year has flown by and these kids are ready for middle school! We will have many things going on this week.
Monday-- No School! Enjoy your Memorial Day Weekend!
Tuesday-- Health Video/ P.E.
Wednesday-- 5th Grade Promotional Ceremony will begin promptly at 9:00 am in the cafeteria. Following the ceremony we invite parents to join us outside at the airnasium for cookies, lemonade, and pictures! Wednesday is also early release!
Thursday- Art/ Class party! Thank you to Mrs. Williams for planning and organizing all of this!
Friday-- Half Day! Dismissal will begin at noon! Report cards will only be sent home on Friday! If your child does not plan on attending, you will need to come up the following week to pick them up.
We will also have our 5th grade clap out beginning at 11:30, parents are welcome to watch from the world wall as the students are clapped out of the building! :)

Week of May 22nd-26th
Our last full week of 5th grade! We will have our field trip to Bowl America on Wednesday! Students are able to buy additional snacks. Each student will get 2 slices of cheese pizza and a drink. On Thursday we will have Career Day organized by our outstanding school counselors.
Academics:

Math: We will finish up our 6th grade lessons this week. All homework packets will be due on Friday, May 26th. That would be for lessons 1-10.
Science/Health: Students will be working in groups to teach the class about the chapter in the health book they were given. They can create a PowerPoint, posters, pamphlets to help get the information across to their peers.
Students will research the following chapters:
Chapter 2: Being a Wise Consumer
Chapter 4: Keeping Fit and Active
Chapter 5: Planning for Safety
Chapter 10: Dealing with Feelings
Chapter 11: Supporting your Family

Week of May 15th-19th
Field Day will take place on Wednesday, May 17th. 5th grade will be on the track from 10:05-11:15 and again from 2-2:40 for Tug of War! If you would like to join us, you can find us on the track! Students should bring a towel to sit on and water! There are some water stations so students may want to bring a change of clothes, just in case!
Our chicks should hatch sometime this week! We have enjoyed candling them and learning about the hatching process! Stay tuned for pictures!
Friday, May 19th is the Evening of the Arts beginning at 6PM, you must RSVP to attend this event, e-mail Ms. Spears if you plan on attending. spearsr@duvalschools.org

We will continue our Poetry Workshop with Cinquains, haikus, and limericks! Fun!!!
All work jobs must be turned in by the deadlines!
Math: We will continue through the 6th grade math curriculum by looking at comparing rates, multiplying with zeros in the product, and greatest common factor. Students will have homework nightly.
Science: We will continue through our nutrition unit and talk about first aid safety. Students will take a test on Chapter 3 on Thursday! The test will be open book.

Moms we hope to see you on Thursday for Muffins with Mom at 8am in the cafeteria!
Students will take the i-Ready test on Monday and Tuesday for Math. It is important students do well on these exams as they will help with their placement in middle school.
Please bring in any extra coins you have laying around the house to support Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Pennies for Patients. The money raised is used to help find cures and ensure access to treatments for blood cancer patients. We will attend an assembly on Monday!
Field Trip forms were sent home last week! Money is due ASAP!!! We will not accept money after Tuesday, May 9th!
NEHS is selling bookmarks and friendship bracelets to purchase a Buddy Bench for the playground!
