Week of February 26th-March 2nd

PTA Spirit Night at Tijuana Flats will take place on Monday Night!  Help raise funds for our school by dining at Tijuana Flats Monday evening.

Academics:

ELA: We survived the Practice Writing Prompt!  All classes have been working super hard on improving their writing skills and I am so proud of YOU!  We will continue to practice pieces and parts of the writing process so that we will ready for the big test on March 6th.✎📔

We will have list #2 of Commonly Misused Homonyms this week:
whether, weather     which, witch       when,   win     whole, hole     know, no     hour, our, are
Test on Friday!

We will also have a reading skills quiz on Friday.
Social Studies and RRJ are both due on Friday!

We will also be discussing the Harlem Renaissance and reading a short story by Langston Hughes.

Math:
There will be a test this week, assessing content from Module 5 Lessons 1 -6.

Lesson 7: Solve word problems involving the volume of rectangular prisms with whole number edge lengths.


Lesson 8 & 9: Apply concepts and formulas of volume to design a sculpture using rectangular prisms within given parameters. 

Lesson 10: Find the area of rectangles with whole-by-mixed and whole-by-fractional number side lengths by tiling, record by drawing, and relate to fraction multiplication. 

Lesson 11:  Find the area of rectangles with mixed-by-mixed and fraction-by-fraction side lengths by tiling, record by drawing, and relate to fraction multiplication. 

Science:  We will begin discussing animal & plant classification.  Students will compare the human body structure to the structure of a plant.  Students will have homework on Monday and Tuesday.

Week of February 19th-23rd

No school on Monday in observance of Presidents' day!

Tuesday is the Mid-year SAC stakeholders meeting.  You'll get to hear about all the progress Bartram is making.  Hope to see some of you there! - Ms. Tiberio

On Friday we will have a practice two hour Writing Prompt to mimic the state writing prompt to occur on March 6.  Students will complete the prompt in their homerooms just as we will be doing during the actual test. This is the only time we will be able to practice with a complete 2 hour block since our normal class time is 90 minutes.

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT ALL STUDENTS ARE IN SCHOOL TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS PRACTICE PROMPT!  THANK YOU!

Math:
We continue to explore volume in Module 5.
Lesson 3: Compose and decompose rectangular prisms using layers.
Lesson 4:  Use multiplication to calculate volume.
Lesson 6: Find the total volume of solid figures composed of two non overlapping prisms.
Lesson 7:  Solve word problems involving volume of rectangular prisms with whole number length sides.

Science:
Students will complete a progress monitoring assessment on Wednesday, this assessment will cover-- plants, weathering, and erosion.  We will begin looking at how plants and animals have different adaptations to survive in their environments.

Week of February 12th-16th

Early Release on Wednesday.  Students can also bring in Valentine's for their homeroom class.  Students must bring for everyone if they are going to pass out Valentines.  Homeroom teachers will send home a list of classmates.

There will be no school next Monday, February 19th.

Academics:

ELA:
No morphs this week!  Monday and Tuesday we will have a timed practice writing prompt.  We are getting closer to the actual Florida State Writing Assessment!  It is important for everyone to be in school.  We will continue our same work jobs from last week and add a writing reflection for our Drone prompt.
No secret phrase this week.  Ria is our winner from last week for the Bin of Happiness!


Math:There will be an end of Module 4 computer based test this week.
Lesson 32: Interpret and evaluate numerical expressions including the language of scaling and fraction division.
Lesson 33: Create story contexts for numerical expressions and tape diagrams and solve word problems.
Module 5 Lesson 1: Explore volume by building with and counting cubes.
Lesson2:  Find the volume of a right rectangular prism.


Science:  Human body!  We will be able to do some fun things to learn the different organ systems and the importance of each organ.

Week of February 5th-9th

Family Literacy Night will take place on Tuesday.  The book fair will be going on all week.

Academics:

ELA:
We will wrap up list #10 of our Morphs!
New work jobs: Morph tasks due Friday and a test that day!
RRJ due 2/16.
Social Studies Ticket on the 1960s due 2/16.
We will be working on Writing this week with conferences and activities. I will return the prompts we did about Drones!  We will also begin our Promises to Keep book about Jackie Robinson.

Math:
Lesson 26: Divide a unit fraction by a whole number.
Lesson 27:  Solve word problems involving fraction division.
Lesson 28: Wrote equations and word problems.
Lesson 29: Connect division of a unit fraction to division of 1 tenth and 1 hundredth.
Lesson 30-31: Divided decimal dividends by non unit decimal divisors.

Science:  We will be discussing plants (flowering and nonflowering).  We will hopefully get the chance to begin our unit on the human body this week also.
