Candy Corn Catapult Lab

Week of October 26th-30th

 Report Cards will be sent home on Monday!  Please sign and return.

Red Ribbon Week & Literacy Week this week:





Picture retakes will be on Tuesday.  Please let you child know if you would like them to have a retake.  All Duval Homeroom Kids will be having their picture taken for the first time.   


Academics:

ELA: Week #7 for Morphs! Test on Friday! RRJ due on 10/30 and SS ticket is also due on 10/30!

We will have some Ready pages to complete this week as well. To be announced!


This week we are working on Theme. We will work on Theme for the next two weeks. Theme in stories, dramas, and poems! We also discuss Theme every day with our classroom book a day!

We have a fun activity this week with one of our books of the day...Creepy Carrots!

We will have a Lesson Check on Friday for Theme in a drama with another lesson check next week for Theme in poetry.

Math: We will move into whole number division with remainders.


Science: Our eggs will arrive this week to begin our 3 week embryology project!  We look forward to learning more about the life cycle of a chicken.   In science class, we will discuss the difference between an insulator and a conductor in an electric circuit.  Students will have a quiz on electrical transformations/Forms of Energy on Tuesday.  Then we will move onto Force and Motion.  Continue to review Science Vocabulary and content from the SSA packets that went home in the 1st quarter.  We will highlight quarter 2 words as we go.

Week of October 19th-23rd

 We hope everyone enjoyed the extra day off this weekend!  Just a reminder that report cards will go home next Monday the 26th.

Lunch Room Changes:  Our lunch time has changed to 12:55-1:25.  Be sure to pack your child with a snack daily as it is makes for a long morning!  Also, students cannot buy a la carte items on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.  These items can only be purchased on Wednesday and Friday.  This is to help alleviate the long lunch lines due to free lunch for all students.

We would like to welcome our 6 new students to our rooms who are joining us from virtual school! :) 

Academics:

ELA: Morph's are back this week! We will be studying list #6 this week with a test on Friday. Remember the tests are cumulative so keep studying lessons 1-5 as well! Flash cards will be added to our rings.

RRJ's are due on Friday 10/23.  A new SS ticket is due on 10/29 and will focus on Technology and Exploration. We will be finishing up with comparing and contrasting events and settings in stories and begin working on Theme of a Story or Drama. Lesson Checks on Friday. WOW! (Writing on Wednesdays!) We will continue working on introduction paragraphs and venture into our whole essay plans. I have been impressed by our budding writers so far!

Math: We will continue to work on metric conversions using multiplication and division, we will then move into whole number division.

Science:  We will continue to discuss electrical transformations this week.  Students will learn the different between a closed and open circuit.  We will also focus on what is a good conductor or insulator of electricity.

Week of October 12th-16th

 There will be a Planning Day on Friday!  Report cards will be sent home on October 26th. Be sure to check your child's Focus to view grades and let us know if you have any questions.  We hope you enjoy the long weekend!

Academics:

ELA: No new morphs this week! Our vocabulary will consist of academic vocabulary in our Source Books with a scavenger hunt on Thursday!  SS is due Wednesday! pages 9-10 of the work book.  New RRJ is due on 10/23.  NO REPEATING CREATIVE ARTS IF YOU HAVE ALREADY DONE IT!  Ready lesson this week is compare and contrast  events in a story.

All Ready lesson pages from last week must be completed this week.  (Pages 80-87 is a test grade!)

Math:  We will continue through module 2 with multiplication. This week we will look at multiplication involving decimal place values.  Please continue to review decimal place value with your child.  Students need to know the tenths, hundredths, and thousandths place.  It is also a great time to get out the multiplication flash cards!!  Students need to become VERY fluent with their facts!!  They can also complete Freckle Fluency at home for additional practice.


Science: Students will complete the science progress monitoring assessment on Wednesday!  This will cover everything we have gone over in the first quarter.  Use the vocabulary/FSA study guide packet that went home last week to review!  Several kids said they have been studying with it already!!  WOOHOO!!  This week we will move onto Forms of Energy.

Week of October 5th-9th

Academics:

ELA: We are taking a break from new morphs this week to go deeper with the morphs we have already learned on lists #1-5. We will have a morph activity due on Friday (either writing sentences or a story with 3 words from each list) and a quiz on these words as well. RRJ #3 is due on 10/9 and creative arts options are open! New SS ticket is due 10/14 -work book pages 9-10. RAP out all responses for full credit.We have Ready pages to complete by Friday (80-87) and a Reading quiz on comparing and contrasting characters in a drama on Friday.

Math:  We are continuing to work on multi-digit multiplication.  It would be great if you could practice multiplication facts with your child.  You can either make flashcards or students can work on Freckle Math Fluency on the computer by now students should be fluent and fast with knowing their multiplication facts.

Science: We will discuss chemical changes.  Students will have a science quiz on Friday.  This will cover properties of matter, mixtures, solutions and chemical changes.
