Week of September 25th-29th

Thank you to all the families who came out to Open House last Thursday!  It was so nice to see so many of you.  We have e-mailed out the PowerPoint from Open House.  If you were unable to attend, please let us know if you have any questions.

Girl Scout Parent Night will take place on Monday, Sept. 25th

Progress reports will go home on Tuesday, September 26th.

Early Release will take place on Wednesday!

Academics:

ELA:
We will continue our Morph study with list #3! Test on Friday! Test will include Morphs from previous lists!

Social Studies ticket and RRJ are both due Friday, 9/29.
We will continue our study of the UDHR and prepare for our upcoming novel study
Esperanza Rising!
We will also continue our Pirate Writing! Don't forget to memorize the
Pirate Rap for a chance to earn pirate booty!

Math:

Science:  We will be moving on to Properties of Matter and looking at mixtures.  Students will have science homework this week.  We will complete an investigation this week looking at the different states of matter.  Students will have a test on Friday--this will cover practice of science, and matter.

Week of September 18th-22nd

Open House for 1st, 3rd, & 5th grade will take place this week at 6:00 PM on Thursday.  There will be a short presentation in the cafeteria and then parents will be invited back to listen to a presentation from us!

We will meet in the Media Center as a whole group.  We hope all will attend!

Picture Day on Thursday!!!


Academics:
ELA:
All previously due assignments will  be collected this week from all classes for any students who were absent before the storm.

Social Studies ticket due 9/29
RAHs will be collected from the days off and a new one will be issued on Thursday.

Due to the missed days, we will continue with  MORPHS  list #2. Test on Friday will include morphs from lists #1 and #2.

We will continue our study of Human Rights using primary and secondary sources.  We will also begin a new writing prompt with our Pirate Writing! Arrrgghhh!

This week will be a transition week for Mrs. Groeteke's homeroom as we learn the rituals and routines for my ELA class and set up notebooks.

Math: Students will complete the end of module 1 assessment on Wednesday!  This will take place on the computer.  We will then move on to Module 2 which will cover multiplication and division, we will also look at the order of operations this week.

Science: We will discuss the differences between scientific investigations and experiments, this will be a helpful discussion for science fair project topic ideas!  We will complete an aligned investigation that reminds students why it is important to complete repeated trials.

Week of September 4th-8th

We hope everyone enjoyed the extra day off!

The Book Fair will take place this week!  Students can bring in money each day to shop for books.  There is a family night on Thursday, September 7th.

We hope to see everyone at Open House on Thursday, September 14th.

Academics:

ELA:
We have now completed our I-ready baseline test.  Wahoo! Hopefully with all of the testing out of the way we can get on a normal schedule with our reading, writing, and social studies lessons.
RRJs and Social Studies Tickets will be due this Friday, September 8.
We will continue our MORPH study this week with list #2.  The test on Friday will include last week's MORPHs from list #1 as well as list #2.

Math:
Lesson 11 & 12: Multiplying decimals by a whole number
Lesson 13, 14, 15: Dividing decimals by a while number
Students will take a Module 1 Assessment next week!  We will spend time reviewing on Monday & Tuesday!  This assessment will be completed on the computer.

Science:
I will do a demonstration this week that reminds scientist why it is important to do repeated trials and share their data with other scientists.  We will also discuss the differences between an experiment and an investigation.  We will also look at what is a testable question, this will be a good discuss especially with the science fair coming up.
