Week of August 27th-31st

Our first early release will take place on Wednesday.  Dismissal will begin at 1:35.

There will be no school the following Monday, September 3rd in observance of Labor Day!


Academics:

ELA:
Rituals and routines are being put into place and things are going well! This week we will finish up I-ready testing! Hooray!  We will continue working on RRJs and our Social Studies ticket.  Both are due Friday.
Remember to have our independent reading book with you at all times.  RAHs are due every Thursday!
We will have content related vocabulary with a test on Friday.
This 9 weeks our focus will be on  Human Rights!

Constitution—a written plan for government

Bill of Rights—the first 10 amendments to the US Constitution

Human Rights-basic rights that all humans are entitled to have

Entitled—to be deserving of having rights and privileges

UDHR-Universal Declaration of Human Rights—a document outlining the basic human rights all people should h

Democracy-a government in which the people have the right to make political decisions.

Nationality—belonging to a particular nation such as the United States of America

Congress—a group of representatives who meet to meet to discuss things and make suggestions and decisions.

3 Branches of Government-Executive-President, Legislative—makes laws, Judicial—judges/courts

Finally, we will be reading a wonderful novel this 9 weeks called Esperanza Rising.  I only have a class set to share with both classes. Therefore, it is very helpful for students to have their own copies.  You can purchased a used copy on Amazon for $5.00.  

Math:  We will continue to work through module 1, videos below to assist.

Students can be bringing home their daily math folders to help them prepare for daily math quizzes.

Science: We will continue to work through the nature of science and understanding the scientific method.  On Friday, we will begin Properties of Matter.
