Week of September 21st-25th

Academics: 

 ELA:  Another successful week in ELA!  We will be on list #4 of our Morphs this week.  Flash cards need to be added to the ring before test on Friday 9/25.

RRJ #2 is due 9/25 with a chat.  New SS ticket is due 10/2 and is found in the SS work book.  We will pull them out of the work book.  We will be working on Scientific Texts this week and Historical Texts the following week with a Lesson Check on 10/2.  In writing we will work on attacking the prompt and Introductory paragraphs.

Remember, memorize and recite the Pirate Writing Poem for Pirate's Gold!

This week begins the SECRET PHRASE of the week!  I will type a secret phrase in the blog and students can write it down on a sticky note to be submitted for a chance to win a trip to the Bin of Happiness!!!!!  Don't decrease your odds of winning  by sharing the secret phrase!  So....here it is....

Just write this down on a sticky note and give to Mrs. Ray of  🌞 for the Friday Drawing and some Happiness! 💓💗💕💞

 Math:  We will wrap up module 1 and have a test on Wednesday.  Students will have a review sheet to study prior to taking the assignment.  Look for that on Tuesday.  We will move on to module 2 next week.

 Science: We will be moving on to the properties of matter this week.

Week of Sept. 14th-18th continued

Having some technical issues on the previous post where it won't let me edit or add anything! So I will be adding the math and science peice here. Math: We will work on dividing decimals this week! We have covered adding, subtracting, and multiplying already! Be sure to practice these strategies with them nightly. Just a reminder students will have a weekly daily math quiz every Friday! Science: We will be learning about scienctists tools this week. Scientists use a lot of tools every day and the students need to know what each one is used for and why. Students will also be completing resource baseline testing for PE, Music, and Art this week.

Week of September 14th-18th

 Virtual Open House will take place on Tuesday at 6:30.  This will be accessible through your child's Microsoft Teams page.

Picture Day on Thursday!  These pictures will be for the yearbook! 

Academics:

Pirate Writing: Memorize the Poem for Pirate Gold! We will be working on Informative Writing, attacking the prompt and introductory paragraphs. 

We will be wrapping up summarizing text and begin using details to support inferences with a quiz on Friday 9/18.

Week of September 7th-11th

 No School on Monday in observance of Labor Day!  Enjoy the extra time off!

Read At Home Logs are due on Thursday!! 

 List 2 of Morphs this week with a test on Friday. 

We have an RRJ due on Friday. This will be completed in the RRJ journal following the rubric. Our reading topic this week will build on main idea and focus on summarizing.  The new SS ticket will be due on 9/18.

Math:  We will be working on adding and subtracting decimals, students will need to have a strong understanding of decimal place value to be successful at this.  

Science:  We will be discussing different tools that scientists use.  We will also complete a couple labs this week so we can continue to remember the steps to the scientific method.

Week of August 31-September 4

                                           

Hooray! We have completed our first full week of school and everyone is adjusting beautifully! Our team was even chosen to be the first model for our fire drill last Thursday! We have been working on baseline testing and will continue this week with makeups and the science baseline.

We have had parents asking about sending in treats for birthdays and have gotten word from our administration that treats are not allowed at this time. Hopefully, we will resume with being able to share goodies very soon! Thank you for your understanding and support in this matter.

Read At Home Logs are due Thursday!!! 

This week we will have our first vocabulary list.  We will be studying Morphs which consists of prefixes and affixes.  Our first test will be on Friday, 9/4/20 and students will be making flashcards this week to study the words. The test will consist of morphs from LIST 1 only but will be cumulative going forward.

We have a social studies ticket due on Friday, 9/4/20.  Our first RAH is due this Thursday and every Thursday following. The Reader's Response Journal was introduced last Friday and will be due in  2 weeks on 9/11/20.  This is a work job and class time will be devoted to completing these. I will be having RRJ chats with students this week to ensure understanding of the expectation! We began our study of Main Idea and will continue this all week with a quiz on Friday 9/4/20

                                           

Math:  We will be working with decimals this week.  We will work with decimals in standard form, expanded form, and word form.  We will also compare decimals using our prior knowledge of place value.  We will finish the week by rounding decimals.

Science:  We will complete the science baseline on Monday and Tuesday of this week.  This test is to see how much science knowledge your child already has, we will then use this data to prepare and instruct any deficits.  Then we will continue our studies of the scientific method.  Students can expect to have a science quiz on this topic on Friday. 

Week of August 24th-28th

 We had a great and busy first two days of school discussing rituals and routines and getting used to wearing face masks!

This week we will begin baseline testing for Reading, Math and Science.  The majority of this testing will take place on the computer except for Science testing.

Academics:

ELA: This week in ELA will consist of rituals and routines, setting up journals and completing Achieve 3000 and I-ready baseline testing.  We will begin our first reading lesson and the focus is Main Idea. We have begun our Classroom-Book-A-Day program and will read one picture book daily for the entire year! I will also introduce a social studies task to be completed in a two week framework.  Read At Home logs will go home on Thursday and will be the required homework for ELA.  I will collect them each Thursday and a new one will go home.  More to come as we get this year under way! 

Math:  We have started full steam ahead into our math curriculum.  We are working on powers of ten, exponents, and how multiplying or dividing by 10, 100, and 1,000 changes the value of a number.  Students have begun completing daily math each morning.  This is a great way for us to review key topics all year.  Students will take a weekly quiz on Friday.  The first two we will complete together.

Science: We have begun discussing the Scientific Method and how students can write a testable question.  We hope to be able to get into some labs soon.

Thursday & Friday, August 20th & 21st

 

Welcome back to school!  We are so excited to have you with us this year!  We will primarily focus on rituals and routines these first two days.  We will discuss important safety measures that we will take to make sure we all stay healthy.  We will also begin to set up our materials and supplies so we can start fresh on Monday!
