This week we will take a break from Morphs to practice some 5th grade spelling words to assist with our Writing Tasks.

The list for this week's test on Friday is:

We WILL NOT have an RRJ this week.  We WILL have a new Social Studies ticket on the Great Depression to go along with our novel study which takes place during this time period.  This will be due on October 12.

We will continue reading Esperanza and work on Character Hearts!

Math:  We are continuing to work through module 2.  We will have a mid module assessment on Friday.  Students can always work on i-Ready at home for additional practice!

Science:  We will finish up physical and chemical change this week and begin to discuss different forms of energy.  We will discuss light and sound energy this week.

Week of September 24th-28th

The Book Fair will take place next week!  Family night is on Wednesday.  The deadline to order books for our class Scholastic account is Monday 9/24.  Mrs. Ray will be placing our order on that date!

Early Release one Wednesday.

Academics:

ELA: 
We have started our novel study of Esperanza Rising! This novel study will go on for the rest of the 9 weeks!  We will have text dependent questions throughout the study as well as other fun projects to support our standards.  We will also continue to have work jobs each week. RRJ's and SS tickets are due this Friday! 9/28. As always, RAHs are due on Thursdays.  Don't forget to have them signed and completely filled out!
This week we will have the Morph List #3 test on Friday! Remember to have all tests that are scored below 70% signed and returned to Mrs. Ray.

Science: Students will complete another lab this week on dissolving mixtures using heat!  Students will take a test on Wednesday covering: states of matter, mixtures, solutions, and the scientific process.  We will then move into changes in matter: Chemical & Physical Changes.

Academics:

ELA:  This week we will move on to list #2 for our Morphs.  We will have this test on
Friday, 2/21.

We will have the following new work jobs which will be due on September 28.

Week of September 10th-14th

Science Fair: Projects will be due on November 13th.  An acknowledgement form will be sent home on Monday for you to sign and review.  This is a requirement for all 5th grade students.

Early release on Wednesday.

We hope to see everyone on Thursday at Open House.  It will begin at 6:00 pm.

Progress reports will go home on Monday, September 17th.

Fall Pictures will take place on September 19th.

Do you love to read? What is your favorite book or author? Well, here's your chance to order your favoites! We will be participating in SCHOLASTIC this year!  I will send home the flyers and you will have two weeks to order the books.  I encourage you to order online.

The work jobs will remain the same this week with List #1 of our Morph's Test this Friday.  Social Studies will be due Friday as will RRJs with chats.  We will also take a Reading Comprehension Test based on the skills we have been working on so far.  It will consist of passages to read and writing responses to questions.

Pirate Writing!  We have had several students earn Pirate's Gold by reciting our writing poem!  The first two to do so in each homeroom were these lovely ladies, Kate and Eloisa!

Week of September 3rd-7th

Image result for images no school monday  We hope everyone enjoyed the extra time off on Monday!

Open House will take place this week for students in Kindergarten, 2nd and 4th grade!  It begins at 6 PM.  We hope to see everyone next week for our Open House!

Students will finish up baseline testing in their resource classes this week.

Academics:

ELA:  This week we will begin a study of MORPHS! Common prefixes, suffixes and root word parts. We will use these words (list #1) for two weeks due to the short week and have our test on
list #1 Friday, September 10th.
New RRJ due 9/10 and new SS ticket about the Constitution due 9/10.

We will continue our study of Human Rights and get ready for our novel study!

We will be reading a wonderful novel this 9 weeks called Esperanza Rising.  I only have a class set to share with both classes. Therefore, it is very helpful for students to have their own copies.  You can purchased a used copy on Amazon for $5.00.  Also available with Barnes and Noble and Scholastic!

We have had a fun week of labs this week in science!  We completed a lab about chemical changes and learning the scientific method and learning the importance of repeated trails!



Then we got to the tasty lab of is a double stuffed Oreo really double the stuffing?  Be sure to ask your child for the answer!  Thank you to all the families who donated Oreos! :)
