Week of May 30th-June 3rd

We hope everyone had a relaxing 3 day weekend!

PARENTS AND STUDENTS!  As the year comes to an end Mrs. Ray would like to get her classroom library organized for next year. Please return all books you borrowed from our class library this week.  Look at home for any books you may have forgotten to return! We are missing quite a few books. Thank you!

Our final Top Quality Party will be this Wednesday!

We  had a couple of fun READING celebrations this week!  Students who "grew" 150 or more points on ACHIEVE, which is a year and a half or more growth, were treated to an ice cream dessert and lunch in the classroom! What an accomplishment!

We also celebrated students who met their 25 Book Reading Challenge with a celebration in the cafeteria.  We are reading machines!  Great job!

Academics:

ELA:
We will continue to wrap up our Rain Forest activities.  No RRJ or Social Studies ticket.


Math: We will finish all Step Up to 6th grade lessons!

Science:  We will begin Chapter 5: Planning for Safety.  This is the final chapter we will complete in our health textbooks.  The chapter covers preparing for the unexpected emergency, practicing safety, and fire safety.  They will have their final health test on Friday!

Last week of school activities:
Monday- Faculty vs. 5th grade kickball game 10 AM on the track, only students who did not lose 3 conduct points for the last 5 weeks will be able to play!

Thursday- Individual Class Party!
Friday- 5th grade clap out/ Report Cards sent home/ Dismissal at 12!

Week of May 23rd-27th

We have plenty to keep us busy this week!

Tuesday we will have field day!  5th grade time slots are 10:05-11:15 and then we will go back outside for tug of war from 2:10-2:40.  Please apply sunscreen at home.  Students need to bring plenty of water to school this day!  They may also want to bring towels to sit on, hat, and sunglasses.  Feel free to meet us on the track to cheer on your child.

Wednesday we will have our field trip to the bowling alley!  Chaperones can meet us as Bowl America on San Jose at 9:30.  Students do not need to bring lunch this day as they will receive pizza, chips and a drink.  They may bring additional money to purchase additional food items.  

Thursday is Career Day from 9-11, we will have 6 different careers represented!  We look forward to hearing about several different jobs.

Friday is the Reading Celebration for students who met our book goal of 25 books totaling 3125 pages.  Many students have read way more than that! Way to go!

All party money is due this week, so we can begin purchasing supplies!  Cost is $6.00!  Thank you!

Congratulations to Olivia and Jaci for being named May's Eagle of the Month for responsibility!



Academics:

ELA:
No vocabulary due to all of the activities this week!  We will have Rainforest activities all week.
We will also be finishing up RRJs from last week.  We will have a social studies ticket and resume working on Achieve 3000!

Math:  With all the activities going on this week, we will do our best to continue through our 6th grade math lessons!  We will also review past concepts such as place value.

Science:  We will move on to chapter 4 in our health books: Keeping Fit & Active.  This is a short chapter with only 3 lessons, so we will test on Chapter 4 on Friday!  This test is open book!

Week of May 16th-20th

We will finish up i-Ready and Achieve 3000 testing this week!  

We have our final early release of the school year this Wednesday.

Congratulations to Lejla and Jaci for being recognized at Atlantic Coast for outstanding achievement throughout their elementary school career!




**Don't forget to turn in the $6 for our end of year party!**

Academics:
ELA:

We will have vocabulary this week with a test on Friday.  RRJ's will be due on Friday along with a social studies ticket.
We will continue our study of the Rainforest and focus on Achieve and I-Ready Testing this week as well.
Adrian was our Bin Of Happiness winner this week.  Our new phrase is "Do your best on the test!" :)

Math: We will continue to work in our Envisions textbooks and work through the Step Up to 6th grade curriculum.  This week we will look at ratio tables, comparing rates, multiplying with zeros in the product, and greatest common factors.

Homework has returned for math! YAY!

Science:  We will continue working on our unit on Nutrition in our Health books.  We will test on Chapter 3: Nutrition on Friday! Health tests are open book.

Week of May 9th-13th

Thank you so much for thinking of us last week during Teacher Appreciation week, we truly felt the love from everyone and we are grateful for the opportunity to work and learn with your kids everyday! :)

4th quarter progress reports will be sent home on Tuesday!

Thursday and Friday will be our Multicultural Days.  There will be no resources on these days.

Friday, please plan to attend the PTA sponsored Bounce & Boogie night from 6-8pm on the track!  There will be food trucks! 

End of year i-Ready and Achieve 3000 testing will take place this week for both homerooms. 

Upcoming Reading Events: Superintendent's Reading Celebration will be on Saturday, May 14th at Hemming Plaza.   Students who have met the book goal will receive a certificate to attend the event. 
May 25th--Open house for our school at the South Mandarin Public Library.  Raffle and crafts.  Just for us! 7-8 pm. M
May 27th End of Year Reading Bash for students who met the book goal.  It's not too late to meet the goal and attend!

NEHS is selling wristbands for $1.00 to support the Jacksonville Humane Society!  Get one now and help the animals!

Academics:

ELA:
We will be back to our regular work jobs this week!  We will also continue our study of the Rain Forest.  Vocabulary with a test on Friday. RRJ and social studies ticket due Friday.  Book /Clubs will meet and discuss novels.  Achieve 3000 lessons as well.

Math: We will complete the end of year i-Ready testing on Monday!  We will also begin working in our Envisions textbooks to complete the Step up to 6th grade lessons.  This will cover ratios, unit rates, proportions, etc...

Science:  We will continue to work through our Health textbooks.  We will finish up chapter 2 which covered personal hygiene, and how to keep our eyes, and ears healthy.  We will review this chapter and test on Tuesday.  This will be an open book test.  We will then move on to chapter 3 which covers nutrition.

Girls on the Run 5K

Congratulations to all our girls who completed another 5K this weekend!  This was the girls last time finishing a 5K at the elementary school level.  Hopefully they will go on to do Girls on Track in middle school!  We are very proud of our girls!
