Week of April 30th-May 4th

Science testing will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday!  Students will also be completing resource testing this week.

Our end of FSA popcorn party will take place this Friday at 1:30 PM. Students who were in attendance each day for testing and showed great effort and strategies during testing will receive this reward!  Thank you for those of you who turned in box tops, that is how we pay for this incentive! :)

Progress reports will go home on Wednesday.  Please sign and return.

Academics:

ELA: We will continue supporting Science this week with a Data Table Study!  We will also begin a travel brochure project.  Students will choose a country and use provided resources to create a travel brochure by writing an opinion paper following very specific guidelines.
We will also begin a study of natural disasters.

Math: We will continue working in Module 6.
Lesson 15: Construct perpendicular line segments on a rectangular grid.
Lesson 16: Contract perpendicular line segments and analyze relationships of the coordinate pairs.
Lesson 17: Draw symmetric figures using distance angle measure from the line of symmetry.

Science: State testing this week and our eggs arrive on Tuesday!!!!!!

Week of April 23rd-27th

Math FSA testing on Tuesday, April 24th & Wednesday, April 25th!  Parents don't forget to send in your homework assignments for your child.

Our final Early Release of the year will take place on Wednesday.  Dismissal is at 1:40.

Academics:

ELA: HOORAY!  ELA testing is over!  I know everyone did a fantastic job and worked hard!
This week we will focus on non-fiction reading in the area of Science to boost our knowledge for the Science test next week!  Knowledge is Power!!!  We will be doing science writing, annotating test questions, working with data tables and studying non-renewable energy sources!  What fun!💙

Math:

Science:  Review, Review, Review!  We will play various science review board games, Who Wants to Be A Millionaire reviews, and Jeopardy's to get some last minute prep in without the boring classwork! :)   We will also review Forms of Energy: Sound, electrical, mechanical, chemical, light, heat, etc...

Week of April 16th-20th

FSA testing will begin for our 5th graders this week.  They will complete the ELA test on Wednesday and Thursday.  Please ensure that your child has a good night of sleep and a nutritious breakfast those mornings.

Academics:

ELA: No vocabulary this week in preparation for our FSA reading test on  Wednesday.  You have worked so hard and are ready to shine!🌞😎🌞😎🌞😎
SS ticket is due Tuesday and we will be working on reading skills together all week.
We will create some "Knowledge Posters" to study for the FSA using our source books!
We will have DATA chats on Monday and Tuesday to remind you of your previous FSA scores and the goals we have made.


Math: We will continue to review the fifth grade math standards.

Science:  We will review forms of electricity and rocks and minerals this week.  We will play a couple different jeopardy games as review of all science concepts.

Academics:

ELA: We will use the FSA list 3 for the test this week.

We will be studying Tone in literary works and use our previous short stories to practice looking for vocabulary to indicate the tone.  We will complete another social studies task to be due 4/13 before our FSA testing. We will continue to work on short responses through thought questions as well as FSA practice text.

Vocabulary grade recovery:  bring back signed test for 10 points.  Write missed words and definitions 3 times each for 10 points.  Due Friday.

Math: We will have a test Wednesday on analyzing patterns and terms.  We will begin to review all  the fifth grade standards.

Science:  Students should be studying their review packets, as well as their FCAT vocabulary packets.  Students will also have weekly homework for the next few weeks.  We will be review for the next few weeks, while also moving into our health unit.

Week of April 2nd-April 6th

Report cards will be sent home on Tuesday.  Please sign and return.

Our last Run Club practice will take place on Thursday!

Students will take an assessment in Science this week that will show Ms. Tiberio where students are and what we still need to review and cover before the state test on May 1st and 2nd.  This assessment will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday during their normal class time.  

Academics:

ELA: We will have our FSA vocabulary test on Friday.  RRJs and Social Studies tickets are due on Friday as well.  We will be focusing on finding main idea this week and summarizing text.  We will have an assignment to go along with another fun short story this week"Three Wishes"!  You will also need your' All Summer in a Day" short story from last week.  We will have a short test on Friday to assess main idea and summarizing.  Finally, we will be working on short responses this week and will focus on our thought questions in Achieve to practice.

Math: The students are really enjoying the Unit 6, focusing on the coordinate plane.  This week we will plot patterns and analyze pattern rules.
Lesson 8: Generate a number pattern from a given rule and plot points.
Lesson 9:  Generate 2 number patterns from given rules, plot and analyze the patterns.
Lesson 10: Compare lines and patterns generated by addition and multiplication rules.
Lesson 11: Analyze number patterns created from mixed operations.

Science:  Students will have nightly homework for the next few weeks. This will be due on Friday of each week. Once students complete the science assessment on Tuesday and Wednesday we will evaluate where we need to go to review and remediate.  We will also be finishing up our lessons on food chains and food webs.  Students will have a quiz on food chains and food webs on Friday.
